The aim of this paper is to provide an archaeological and architectural study of the remains of a large temple found in the forum of the Roman city of Pollentia (Mallorca, Balearic Islands) in the 1980s. Through the contextualization of the temple within the Western Mediterranean in the Late Republic, and in relation to the Tuscan temple tradition, a historical interpretation from both political and topographical points of view is provided. The Tuscan temple has been previously interpreted as a Capitolium related to the colony status of the city (Mela 2.124-125) – probably a citizen colony (Plin. nat. 3.76-77) –, reflecting the ideological features of Roman colonies in the Late Republic. It is remarkable as one of the few Republican Tuscan temples identified outside Italy. These aspects reinforce the italic features of Pollentia, which have also been observed in other aspects. Furthermore, 3D modelling has been incorporated into the interpretive process of the temple, which has increased the accuracy of the elevation proposal. This article draws on a multidisciplinary approach, from classic texts and history to 3D modelling and archaeology.
